It has been a while, just looking for 1st thoughts and opinions.
Engine: Free - older model (1968) 302.
At start up with cool oil - oil pressure approx 25 pounds at idle.
As engine warms up oil pressure fades down to 0.
Thinking oil pump is going bad.
Maybe a temp quick fix 15W40 or 20w50/thicker oil (running 10W30 from Oriellys at this time). This would be for just a couple of weeks. Or until a good rainy week (Motorcycle riding weather here in Georgia leaves me with little truck time).
Alson wondering if a stock cam from a 351W and lifters from the same engine are interchangealbe with the 302.
Thanks in adavance

Reason: adding questions
The cam and lifters will interchange but you have to use the 351W firing order (18436572). If it ain't knocking run 'er till the wheels fall off...or the rods come out...whichever comes first.
If your oil pressure is fading down to zero, new oil ain't gonna help.
How are you checking oil pressure? If you're using the stock electric gauge the sending unit might be bad.
The oil pressure is checked by a mechanical guage in fact, it is the second new one because I did not trust the old electrical one and I had two still in the pack. Probably going to be a combination of both the oil pumd and the bearings.
Cash is short for the next couple of weeks.
I found another oil pump in my stash of parts - I know it is for the 302 - There is a way to check thes pumps with a feeler gauge - anyone remember/know how to do this?
When checking the pump, look for wear on the end plate. If it is grooved, you will have to surface grind it flat. If it's not too bad, you can use wet-or-dry sandpaper (wet) on a piece of flat glass. Take nothing off of the gears. The gears should have no more than .0015" clearance. Clean the pickup screen with a stainless brush and carb spray. Absoulute cleanliness on reassembly. If the gears are scored, scrap the assembly.
