I found a local dealer who showed me the invoice and the pricing for all the options that I want. When I compared them to Cconsumer report for the truck all the numbers mathced up to the dollar. I believe I have a dealer I can work with but I have never purchased a new vehicle before. I am eligable for Z plan. What the heck are people talking about when they refer to "Dealer holdback"?
I beleive the dealer is honest and I dont want to insult him by acting as ignorant as I really am, In this regard. I also dont want to part with any more of my hard earned money than I have to. Any help will be appreciated.
I am told that my truck is expected to be delivered any day now.
My financing is secured. I dont plan on purchasing any xtras like extended warranties, under, outer, or overcoating, or T.O.C. :-X23

I believe that dealer holdback is a certain percentage of the price (I don't know if it's of the invoice or MSRP price) that is paid to the dealer from the carmaker. What it means is even if they sell a truck at invoice, the dealer still makes some profit via a payment from the carmaker. I seem to remember finding an explaination in some Consumer Reports "How to Buy" article or another when I bought my truck. Of course, it's a '93, so that was a while ago...

Good Luck!

yo guys; K was correcto! Here is an article on hold-back, etc.:
http://www.edmunds.com/advice/incentives/holdback/index.html

My buddy's dad sold Ford's for about 45 years till retiring (again) last year. He showed me what he made in addition to his salary (minimal) and commisio on each vehicle; he got a percentage (based on seniority and total sales) of the dealer installed stuff (pin stripes, floor mats, ad naseum each month; he worked at only 2 very large Ford dealerships during his working life and managed a few hundred dollars a month on this percentage.

Also look for added costs when you sign or pick it up such as "clerical and messnger fees, etc. I've seen some local dealers try to charge $125.00 for clerical and "admin" fees in addition to the regular MVA charge for tags and reg Plus a messenger fee of $50.00 for the tag/reg pick-up

Thanks AIM.
that article explains it very well. I copied it to study further at my leisure.
on another thought.
How does a Ford Z plan factor into the negotiation process.
Ive been told its like a flat pecentage deduction based upon vehicle type, Non negotiable and Im wondering if there are any hardfast rules so to speak involved here.

Franklin,
I don't know about the plan, but I did a quick search and saw some limited info:
http://www.fordtruckstore.com/plans.html
"Ford Motor Company employees and retirees are encouraged to purchase or Red Carpet Lease vehicles through the Ford Motor Company New Vehicle Purchase Plan, commonly known as the “A-Plan” and “Z-Plan.” These plans offer dealer net invoice pricing to Ford Motor Company employees (A-Plan) and retirees (Z-Plan), as well as their eligible family members. This special pricing is available on the exceptional lineup of Ford vehicles."

I searched for:
Ford z plan

etc.

good luck!

Thanks again AIM
When I review all my paperwork I think I am getting a straight up fair shake from this dealer. Makes me feel good.
I wish I had stumbled onto this site months ago. I'm adopting the never to late attitude about it and have spent the last few evenings parusing the various topics of disscussion. This is a great forum Thanks to people like you all. I plan on making this a regular check point for truck related topics as well as other topics of intrest.
Heres hoping the "anyday now" that my new ride arrives is real soon.

Thanks to you Karl,
I'm still waiting for, "anyday"
cuz thats when the truck arrives.
been about 8 anydays gone by but they were just regular old anydays.
Not to be confused with THE anyday that I'm waiting for.
I thought thats why the ancients developed calenders?
So the people wouldnt just stand around the vegetable gardens waiting for "anyday" so the could harvest their crops.
Something like, "Hey you people step away from the tomatoes your blocking the sun. You can have them on the 12th."
Is that so hard?
Is that to much to ask?
Just give me a date?
If i worked like that in my bussiness I would never work.
It would be like someone calls me an says, "Hey Mr. Inspector Sir; I'm ready for my electrical final an theres a bunch of guys here with a truck load of Drywall." And my response to him goes like this, Yeah I'll be there "ANY DAY NOW." I'm on the way just not quite there yet.
How would you like that, Huh?
Well.............................................. .................................................. ..................Can you tell its raining and nobody needs an Inspection?.............I'm not to bored!
Later. "I GOT YER ANYDAY, MR FORD"

I'm starting to feel paranoid!
I think ford maybe sold my truck to someone else!
I just called the dealer and found out the lady whos going to call me when the truck arrives,!:7
She took the day off!~
What is going on here?.....
She must know something, so she took the day off so she wouldnt have to tell me.
I cant beleive I fell for that one .
Theres some guy that posted on here yesterday and he ordered his truck like 3 weeks after I ordered mine and hes got his truck now and it sounds like the same package as I ordered three weeks before him! .
I need to get his VIN number to see if it matches mine.
Hey if any of you guys see this truck try and get the VIN.
Or better yet
If anyone has any skills in the psychological arena by all means
Help me out.

"ANY DAY"

I think i feel the cheese sliding off my cracker if you now what i mean.
I'm bout 1/2 bubble outa plumb.

Any new news yet F?

As far as the psych stuff goes; maybe I could call that person at the dealership and off-handedly suggest that my pal Franklin is looking at a Mercedes and may drop the truck. Those commissions ... those commissions cause gas...lol

Thanks Aim;

I had to take the weekend and concentrate on football cuz the pressure of "ANY DAY NOW", is wearing on me.
I beleive this may constitute cruel and unusual punishment. Similar to what the NYJ fans are experiencing today only worse cuz I'm going into 3 weeks of this.
You would doe that for me?
Call the dealer an tell him I'm gonna buy Benz, I've seen some of their SUV's on T.V. running the Paris to Dakar rally, They usually run up there in the top 5.
I dont know how they would fare with a 26' boat and a bed full of dirt bikes loaded on. Thanks freind but I think I'll tuff out the wait an stick with my original game plan.
I dont know that I would receive such freindly welcome from the blue oval family here if they thought I was bouncing around in that Euro trash. The people here have all treated me like a respected freind and that kindness will not go unnoticed here. I have received invaluable information regarding the purchase of this new truck and I hope some other participants gain something from this as well.
What I dont get is how can something have a shipping date and no delivery date? I track things all the time. Doesn't every item shipped have a bill of laden in this country? Here it goes I'm starting to ramble again.
Worth the wait, worth the wait,The truck I mean, worth the wait.

I just checked an Ford has now increased incentive rebate from 1500.00 to 2000.00. Hah LOL, I guess its literally paying to be patient.
I hope they dont make me hold out for the 0%/60mo. financing.
