excessive drive line play?
My 90 fs bronc clunks and bangs when off and on the gas petal at cruise and clutching from a stop. The rear drive shaft will rotate about 1/10 or so around with hand pressure with the tcase in high, transmission in gear and parking brake set. This seems to be about twice as much play as I find with the tcase in the low position. Is this too much play in the tcase?
Also, the differential obviously has this much play in the backlash to allow the shaft to rotate that far. The ujoints are tight so all play is in the tcase and diff. Is this too much in the diff?
There is also a maddening chatter in the drive train when starting from a stop. Is it possible that the factory limited slip can cause a chatter like a clutch? I think I can rule out a clutch as this is the 3rd ford dealer replacement clutch disk and pressure plate (though all they sell are rebuilt stuff) and I bought theirs because I had bad experience with an after market grabby clutch in another truck.
