Reverse rotation is a bad term invented by ignorant people. The pinion is above the centerline line of the axle and the pinion will be on the driver's side of the ring gear. The commonly accepted term is "high pinion"

Sorry to sound ignorant then hehe My parents own an auto repair shop and this change is for my personal truck. I just wasnt sure if it was a reverse cut gear or high pinion as you say. i spent last night reading up on it. And the reason i didnt really know is because we dont change that many gears really, specialy not in dana 44s. most dont bother with ratio changes only fix it if it breaks hehe anyways ordered my new gears today, 4.11 for the back and 4.09 for the front, cant wait to change them

If the axle is under a 71-77 bronco then most likely it is a low pinion and is standard rotation. If the axle is from under a f-100, f-150, bronco, etc, then it is high pinion and is reverse rotation... oops i said it, im ignorant

You may want to verify this information taken from a Helms Service manual. I'm assuming you have a Dana 44 IFS.

When changing ratios on the 44 Series front drive axle, it may be necessary to change the differential case along with the ring gear and drive pinion.

Ratios 2.72 to 1 and up to 3.73 to 1 incorporate a thick differential case flange and a thin ring gear. Ratios 3.92 to 1 up to 4.09 to 1 incorporate a thin differential case flange and a thick ring gear.
