ebpv exhuast brake

I know there was a post by kiwk a few months ago.I am trying to make my ebpv work normally, when im not using my exuast brake.
In the on postion the exhuast brake would work,in the off postion the ebpv would work like there was nothing hooked up to it.
Also should i add any kind of resiter inline with the exhuast brake. Its a home made on that i got on line before i found this site.
I did a search but could not find it.
Thanks for the help.

I had it worked out with a six position, On/Off/On switch in installed it in my truck. Trouble is I can't remember exactly how I ran the circuits, but it worked out so that on one of the on positions the EBPV was factory settings, and the other made it come on and stay on as long as the switch was in that position. Very handy for coming down a long hill.
I'll try and work up a diagram and get back to this thread.

Thanks kink, does anyone which wire is + and which is -....I think i might have it worked out,if i can furgure that out.
Im going to feed the hot side with a rectifer,on the line i add. Also im going to add a rectifier to the stock wire hot side.If it works that way lol.
All i want is a simple on and off swicth. When switch is off it will be stock.
I what to tie it into my upffiter switches.

Ok here is a link.
I just remembered, now that I have drawn up the diagram, that the 10 ohm resister needs to be in the circuit between the "switched power" and the six-position switch.

You don't need a rectifier with my setup. The switch completly isolates the PCM from any voltage feedback from the switched power.
I bought the switch at NAPA. I just tried to find it online, but the website insists that you choose a car model and then it narrows down the search to whatever make and model you have chosen. It's simply a universal On/Off/On switch with six poles on the back.

Kink??? LOL.
The lighter color wire with the stripe on it, if my memory serves me correct.
The easy way to verify which one it is, is to start the engine and test the power at the plug with a standard test light. One terminal will have the blinking power and the other one will be ground.

opps sorry kwik
I tried what you have said, with the engine running, there is no power to either, with my test light hooked up to the - side of the batt.If i hook the test light to the + side of the batt, the test light turns on with both wires.
This also works with the engine off.So i have no clue.

And this is testing at the plug for the EBPV?
Hmmm, if you are not getting any power there with the engine running, than I have no clue. My truck would be blinking on the one wire with the engine running at any time of year, and any engine temperature. It's also a '99 and yours is an '03.

Yes at the plug.I found a post on a differant site that stated, the gray/red wire was the +.I have it all hooked up now and it seems to work.Anyway ill find out soon enough.
All i did was to cut the power side of the ebpv and put in a rectifier there.I also put in a rectifier in the power wire that i put in too.
Thanks for all your help.

Kwik,

Just looked at your diagram. It looks simple enough!

I just got back from vacationing in the Smoky Mountains. I didn't take my truck. Took the wife's Explorer because it already has the DVD in it for the kids....

Anyway, going down those mountain grades got me thinking about doing the brake thing to mine. How much does it help? Most I'll be towing will be about 5-6K (racecar and trailer). Would this mod have allowed me to not use the brake on those mountain grades if I had taken my truck? That little Explorer did just fine in 1st and 2nd gear going downhill. I barely used the brakes at all.

Just curious.

Also, where does the exhaust gasses go if the EBPV is activated going down the hill? Does it just exhaust under the hood somewhere? Or in the pipe through the inside of the turbo housing? I've only heard it on once to my knowledge. It was on my Dad's 02 and we were in Canada around the Thanksgiving holidays. It was sub freezing out that morning....He cranked the truck up and it was hissing real loud from what I though was the front of the truck!
