Have a 89 F250 7.3 with original electrical. Both the alternator and regulator are on their last leg (long story). Instead of just replacing with stock parts I would like to upgrade to a higher output alternator with internal regulator.
I have searched and read/reread the postings here and am now more confused than ever. There are a lot of salavage yards around so I can get parts there or via e-bay.
Can someone point to a specific model\year that has a high output 3G setup that would {for the most part) bolt in. I understand I might have to trim the bracket.
I though that the 7.3 with an alternator and regulator was a high output alternator system.
What is the Amp output of your current system?
I would think that one off a newer 7.3 that has a higher output would work and would also use your wiring setup.
I do not think I ever heard of a non-relay regulator working and being on its last leg, they are either good or bad.
I do not recall any posts for upgrading an alternator on a 7.3.
I can't take credit for this list. Copied & saved it from the electrical forums couple weeks ago.
