Hello from a new member
I bought a 94 XLT F0250 with a Powerstroke 7.3l Turbodiesel. 156,000 miles. I got it at a pretty good price for my area, $5250.00 from a local dealer. Truck has 1 owner, Carfax shows no issues, and the truck was obviously taken care of becasue body, motor , and tranny test drive very well.
I did however end up on the side of the raod 20 miels from the dealership with smoke puring from the left front. Seems the caliper is rpobably sticking and I noticed the handling got all of a suddne jumpy. I pulled over and saw the smoke and smelled the bakes. Ok..nothing to get too uptight about..no warranty, but the did tow it at their expense and will be lookign at it in the morning. My question to you all is since I know very little about these trucks, what pitfalls, signs.indicators acan I look for under the hood? I know Harleys an tear into them readily (al except pressing flywheels on the bottom end) and have some advanced user expeince with 4 cylinder notors, but diesel I am new. Any advice would be apreciated.
Regards,
Andywe
This website has a lot of good basic info. Congratulations on your new truck. Just about everything you could ever want to know has been discussed here at some time. The more you read here the more you'll learn.
Based off that article, I am sure there will be a few things I am going to need to do, but I figured I would look and then perhaps do it as part of a 30k service which the truck is due for ( providing the dealer keeps his word on giving me a break the first go round).
If you know your way around small engines, then you know your way around the big ones too....you just don't know it yet
Diagnosing electronic diesels can be problematic, but changing parts is changing parts. I'm sure you'll be fine.

It will give you alot of the basics, how the injector system works, high pressure oil system etc. Alot of good info.
