Coil wire arching like a mutha :-rip
Going 45MPH i can hear a poping sound from the engine compartment. When i got home i poped the hood and gave her some gas, holy crap LIGHTING UNDER MY HOOD! It archs off the coil wire onto my air filter cap which is a good 3" away from it. Is this a bad coil wire? or is somthing restricting the current from the new coil. Like maybe the cap or rotor? Im not good with electrical and need some help! Thanks
Is the ground to your engine block good?
What is the resistence of the wires?
Are you sure you didn't accidentally get a small rotor and a big cap, thus making the spark jump a gap inside the distributor? Try setting the rotor inside the cap and make sure there's not a big gap between the rotor tip and the contacts, if you aren't sure.
make sure the connection from the coil to the dist. is good
What is your compression ratio and what's the spark plug gap set to? There is a table that tells you what works for most combinations. If your compression is really high you can't always run a big gap.
Are the spark plugs resistor plugs? If they are the normal Motorcraft ones, then they are. Not saying that is the problem, but it would make it easier for it to happen.
What kind of distributor is this? What ignition system do you have?
I have a 360 too by the way.. people always give me hell for not having a 390 :P
