Bad Mechnics

Hey everyone just need some advice

i brought my stick shift 01 ranger in when i notices my rear brakes were dragging the guy that looked at it said my e-brake cable wasnt working properly because of rust or corrosion or somthing. so i brought it in about 3 weeks later to get fixed and get the whole rear brake job since it was coming anyways.

Now they get it all apart and tell me i dont need e-brake cables i drive it home use the e brake to park it i decide to walmart and it feels like the rears are already dragging agian.

the mechanic and owner of the shop assure me that the e cables are fine yet a diffrent mechanic less than a month ago told me they are rusted and no good.

Obviously dont go back for future work but any suggestions would be excellent.

Thanks,
Tom

When you pull the e-brake release lever, does the pedal "pop" right up, or seem to hesitate?

Check for a bind from the brakes all the way up to the lever. You paid for and got a brake job; lots of guys just go to work under the hubs. If it's an intermittent problem, it's up to you to find out what makes the brake problem act up: wet brakes, hot brakes, etc...

Could be an underlying issue with the front brakes, however unlikely. If the front breaks aren't working properly then the back has to take up the slack.

well i went over and insisted on them looking at the ebrake cable agian. the mechanic pulled it off with me standing there and the driver side rear was almost like the ebrake being on so he got the drum off and pulled the shoes and he had to pound off the old ebrake cable in order to get the brakes to fit correctly. they put new ebrake cable on driver side and it works flawlessly now. they fixed it for parts cost only because of their mistake so it all worked out.
so i guess they arnt bad mechanics they just made a mistake and fixed thier mistake.

Thanks everyone
Tom

Thats the sign of someone that you can usually trust, if they admit and correct thier mistake. glad it worked out for you, and glad you posted back with the answer too many on FTE never come back and tell the resolution so that someone else that is searching for an answer can find the solution.
