Today my grandpa gave me 1/2 pickup bed trailer, don't worry it's a chevy. According to the kansas dmv website anything under 2k licensing is optional. I wouldn't think that this trailer is over 2k. What do you guys think?
It probably is under unless you are carrying a heavy load. What do you plan to use it for and where. In the KC area are you likely to go into Missouri and will they hassle you there without a license? We had a popup camper a number of years ago and never licensed it and never had any problems while traveling through several different states.
If it was me, I would probably forget the license unless I was using it on a regular basis.
Anything that weighs less than 2000# LOADED does not have to be tagged in the state of Kansas. If your worried about getting hassled by the law just go to a trailer parts store and you can buy a plate that says "under 2K" and they won't give you any grief unless they think the trailer wieghs more than that and then they would pull you over and have a DOT agent come wiegh the trailer.
Well it will be going to Missouri quite a bit. As far as usage not much, just haul off limbs/junk every couple months. I'll be pulling it with a 06 4cyl. so 2k would be pushing it, the escape might handle a little more though. They make under 2k plates? That's cool never would of thought of that.
