Hey everybody, just wondering how well it works to cut a hole in the firewall of a non-ac cab for the condenser/evaportator box. I have almost all components for ac that I took out of another cab. I have found a really solid no rust cab, but it doesn't have a/c. Is it as easy as making a template from an ac cab and just cut out the holes or is it going to take alot of fabrication. I'm doing a restoration so the cab I have is completely gutted anyway. Thanks for the imput.
Why not cut the piece with the hole in it off the firewall of the A/C equipped truck and patch it into the firewall of the cab you're going to use? It's much easier & cleaner.
That's how I do them and it's a lot easeir to control all those easy straight cuts & rewelds than to cut an exact & precise hole like the factory did. After you cut the hole, you still got to finish the edge, fit the unit, get your mounting stuff aligned & drilled/ fit and all that.
Besides, the way I do them, all you have to worry about is the bead along the side of where the Bell hsg tunnel starts. The other beads get hidden by edges & lips and that sort of body stuff.
Look it over you'll see what I'm talking about. It gets a tad hairy when I do this on a different year, like a 65 or 66 for example, but it makes for a dynamite heater- A/C set up. Nothin' like an OEM set up IMHO.
