how can i tell what kind of transfercase i have or where do i looke on the transfer case?

 

There should be a data plate on or near the top of the transfer case. What type of truck and what year is it? Do you know if it is a divorced style or married?

 

its a 1977 150 its a pretty big transforer case

 

if it's over 16" in length and it looks like two separate pieces it's a NP203 t-case. If it's relatively short and more wide it's a NP205 t-case.

The NP203 is a full time t case and has a 6" long aluminum tail shaft with a 6" case, and a 4" range box. Shift patern:

The NP205 is a part time t case. Shift patern:

On the rear of a 205 to the left of the output, there is a round 3 bolt cover that is approx 2.5-3" in diameter.

I have 79 Ford Bronco 351 Auto, Here is My Situation, Changed the C6 because I thought it was bad, turns out, it wasn't, so now I have A NP203 mated to A long tail shaft. (I know impossible no rear hole to bolt shifter) I adapted. I Have the correct NP205 that was mated to this C6 long tail shaft, but I can't find the shifter mount links that it connects them together that I removed when I dismantled it several years back. You may ask how do I know it's not bad after 14 hr of labor, cause next day I realized that the dumb vacuum port that it connects doesn't work anymore, while reinstalling found open vacuum and used it for transmission, it works fine now., So a whole lot work for nothing, So really what I am asking can I just Modify or manufacture linkage on the NP203 mate up with the shifter. now that I installed c6 with longer tail shaft the NP203 was mated to a short one that i took out, really don't want to go thru that pain to swap back in, I know 205 is better, we aint got much snow here in PA western for a while, IF this was option, highly doubt, there is no 2nd bolt whole for the Np203 shifter on longtail shaft, that's why I welded a bolt to use as a stud, the fwd. front bolt was in same location worked out fine. SO, what are my options, gets some small Himes, and rod make them, look for a KIT, (can't find any in reasonable price) modify the OE np203 LINKS, By cutting and lengthen with flat stock, ?? there isn't many options, but to ask or just go for it, this was future ME problem, swap was Monday NOV
