Stinky exhaust
What causes the strange smell from the exhaust when starting up.My family complains that the truck stinks and I agree.I may have heard people refer to this as rotten egg smell.Is this caused by the cat. conv.?thanks

the cat is either shot or your fpr is bad dumping to much fuel into the motor which goes out the tail pipe. has your mpg gone way down recently? have you lost power when climbing hills or passing?

My exhaust stinks about 1/4 of what it did before advancing the timing to 12BTDC. Until I change out the sloppy timing chain with 172K on it advancing the timing really helped reduce the exhaust stink and improve performance. If you can rock the crank more than 5 degrees (I'm at 8) before the distrubutor rotates you may want to advance the timing some.
