No vids but sure wish i had a vid on the roughly 7-8ft dia one which we planted two
sticks that dudded, so put two more and wham it splintered the thing like wood chips
in a play ground, see my dads friend was a cat skinner (d-10 and larger tractor) for
weyerhuaser and had access to the good stuff just for blowing stumps. Honestly
wouldnt recommend it due to the house close by, but it only takes once usually and
it gone in 2 seconds, it takes longer to clean up hehehe. Good Luck.

It will take a LONG time to "dig and cut" it out. I am guessing that it would take you at least 6-8 HARD LONG hours to get it out
I'm not afraid of some hard work, I could do it over a few weeks. I think i'm gonna try and break some of the roots, then hook it up to my case skidsteer and try and pull it out, What do ya think of that?

I have a stihl, It took the tree to the point its at now

If you pull it out I will be amazed. I would second the stump grinder. I think they make some kind of liquid that you drill holes in the stump, pour in let rot for a year and be done with it. But again I think the stump grinder is the best idea. Actually I like the TNT idea also, how about wrapping detcord around it and to make it level with the ground.

I still think it would be way too much work. Your chainsaw probably won't like cutting the roots (see my earlier post about the bar and chain). If you do you should get some files on hand because you will need them (probably every 10-15 minutes or so).

That stuff is for small stumps. And even then it is not that great. It would probably take 5-10 years to rot out that big Silver Maple stump.

Just get a couple quotes. You may be surprised. Oh and don't mention to the stump grinder guys that you might dig it out. They may laugh at you.

I would check with the utilities, be careful there are no lines, pipes, wires buried underground. I recently had two trees cut down, and my phone and electric are running right between the stumps.

One option would be to cut it as close to the ground as possible and set up an elevated garden there. Landscape timbers and topsoil can be obtained cheaply. Stump would be hid plus the garden would look good too.

All you will do with that skid loader is damage it, and that will cost more than the 200 buck stump grinder rental would. The Beast has told the right way to go.

Another idea - cut it off about 3' above ground (level) and dish it into a bird bath.

OK, I cheated on the two I pulled over. I took two digs around the base with the backhoe I had for removing the foundations of my old garage, so a lot of the digging was done.

As for a chain saw on the roots, forget it. I used a Sawzall with the 12 inch demo blade. In fact, since my trees were up above the phone wires and almost to the power, I used the Sawzall for most of the cutting. I limbed them while they were up, then cut the trunks to just below the phone line, then pulled them over with the come-along after digging and cutting the roots. I pulled the rest of the roots out with the tractor I rented to smooth out the whole mess.

Like I said, slow and painful. The hardest $700 I ever saved.
