I own a '67 F-250 and want to make it 4x4. Michigan winters are a little rough. I hunt and snowmobile so I want the added security. Does anyone know the following???
1. A good place to find parts?
2. How hard is it to do? I am very good with tools
3. What years will work?
The only smart way is to have a complete 4x donor truck. And if you get anyway, you could put your better body on it.You need a little of this/that anyway so i wouldn't think about buying all the parts seperate. No way!Find a 4x4.Or one to put you good stuff on to.
I have a '70 F250 4x4 and i paid 2500 for it in great mechanical condition.Now it is all done i wouldn't take 6000 for it.
Find a 4x.MHO ofcourse
Ken, what you want is do-able, and maybe not that hard, but I'm certain it would be time consuming. I'd start looking for pieces now and do the work over the next summer. One of the things to consider are your front springs. The 2 whl F250 has coils and the 4whl F250 has leafs. BUT the 4whl F150 AND F250 both usually use a Dana44 front axle. How about keeping your coil springs in the front and using the front axle from a 73-79 half tonner ? If you put the spindles and knuckles from a disc brake F250 on the ends of that axle, you would still have 8 lug wheels all around. The very 'Best' 2 to 4 wheel conversion information I've seen is from Steve's 4x4 van page. Look him up at http://www.glinx.com/~sbest/ You might also want to consider the body swap idea. Where in Michigan are you ? I'm in Michigan as well, there is a yard near me with lots of old ford trucks. DF
The place I'm refering to is in Zeeland Michigan, or more accurately, north and west of Zeeland. The owner is a ford trucker and has been for years. I think he is close to retirement. He doesn't advertize anything that I'm aware of and he said he was too old for learning the computer. But I sure am glad he is there. DF
