Question trying injection

Hey guys,I have been gone for a while, but I am back. Finally got the 70sc cut.Took 16 in out of the frame just behind the cab.Welded everything up,put 3/8 plates on inside of frame rail turned out fine.I still need to work on the rear of the frame where the other 4 in comes from.I will have some pics on later maybe tonight.Anyways I was thinking about going fuel injected with my truck.I have a 89 331 the motor was injected the changed to carb.I want to keep some driveability so I am thinking about injecting it in my truck.I still have the cobra upper and lower,tb fuel rails inj. and everything else.Even computer.Has anyone here done this before?By the way thanks for all the info I got when I made the decision to shorten my truck.

I am very confused. By "331 Motor" What engine are you talking about? Do you mean a 351W? I might be able to help you but I'm not familiar with any EFI Cobras that came OEM with a 331 engine . . . . What did the engine come out of? car or Truck or what?

Is it an EEC IV Based system? If so do you know whether it's speed density logic or mass Air logic based? It makes a big difference in the adaptability of the system.

I presume it is not a CFI, so is it SEFI, or MAFS/ EFI based hardware? Also what do you mean by "upper and lower" tb? Isn't your throttle body behind your orifice, ahead of your plenum? It should be if the engine is an 89. Are you talking about the Plenum [upper part] and intake manifold [lower part] used on both SEFI & MAFS/ EFI systems ?

Do you have the right high pressure pump for EFI System & ECU you have?

Do you want to run a return line off your fuel rails back to the tank, or would you rather loop your High Pressure circuit within your engine bay. . .?

If you could answer these few questions, I might be able to help you some.

You will have to make a wiring harness for it, unless SDS or Painless has one, I'd put the computer either behind the glovebox or in a sealed box on the fenderwell. Put the fuel pump below the normal fuel level, use an emissions port for the return, you should be good to go.

you will have to make a return line to the tank,,,you must clean the tank COMPLETELY,,,i cant stress this enough,,,you will also need a higher pressure fuel pump,,,it should be around 40psi,,,it is also recomended to have a fuel enerstia (sp?) switch

you can look up windsor fox for your wiring needs,,it usally costs 8oo bucks

or you could find a F.A.S.T. system on ebay? fast system is used to control the fuel injection system,,,,it comes complete with a pcm and wiring

another thing to look for is the oil pan,,,if it is a front sump or a rear sump,,,you might need to change it to a front sump,,,if that is the case you will have to drill out the timing cover to relocate the oil dip stick,,,in short it could be a long project,,,,,i did it once on a 68 fast back mustang,,,definatly worth it when it was done,,,,but i had plenty of second thoughts doing it

good luck

EEC IV engine swaps are everywhere these days. Very simple, tons of info on the web about wiring it up. I don't care much for the mustang wiring harnesses and prefer to use the T-bird or truck engines. If I do a mustanfg HO conversion I make my own harness. I remove the dash speaker and mount an EEC-IV computer on top of the speaker bracket with a zip-tie. I drill a hole in the firewall where the factory AC ran through and scrounge up an AC grommet from U-pullit. Run the wires through that and everything looks great. I did a big write up on installing an injected 4.9 six in a 67-72 truck on the big 67-72 Ford website that this website doesn't like, I'm sure you know the one. Not gonna write it all out again. Good luck with it.

That block should take a mid-sump truck oil pan no problem, it probably still has the hole for the dipstick in the side of the block, just with a plug in it.
