To buy or not to buy, that is the question??

I have a 99 XLT 4x4 X with 111000 miles and I have seen the new pricing incentives for the Expy's and F150's. It is very tempting, 60 months 0% for F150 and 72 months 0% on expys, all 2006 model year. My truck is paid off and it runs so well, whats everyones opinion on buying a new truck?

I have never purchased a new truck before and it might be the time to do it. Oh, I forgot, they are also giving you a gas card worth $1,100! Sweeting the deal!

Usually you cannot combine rebates with the 0% financing. It's one or the other. But if you're purchasing a higher-end model (like an Expy EB or LTD) then the 0% financing can be a big savings. However, keep in mind that you're paying all the profit up front in the form of a higher purchase price (because of no rebates). So if you sell or trade your vehicle before the financing term ends, you are paying that much extra in the long run. (You can get the details of the current rebates in the New Buyer forum.)

IMHO, you are still better off (financially anyway) buying a low miles used vehicle with 1-2 years and 10-20k miles left on the factory warranty. You are saving yourself from the steep depreciation of the first 1-2 years, you still have what's left of the factory 3/36 warranty, and you have the option of purchasing an extended warranty as long as the vehicle is still under the original 3/36. Plus the 06 is basically the same as the 04 and 05 model years, with a few minor differences here and there. And with the used market on SUV's being so soft I'm sure you can get a great deal on a slightly used Expy.

Mark, I've been toying with the same thought and always wind up with a similar conclusion....keep my 2000 4x4. I certainly wouldn't buy a 2006 (or older) with the 2007's (new styling) right around the corner as you'll take an even greater "hit" on depreciation.

I love my Expy but I was leaning towards getting an F150 Screw with the new 6.5ft box. I use my expy mostly as a truck, hauing boats, trailer etc and I also use the inside to haul wood, trash, lumbar and my fire gear.

What I liked about the Expy when I bought it is that I can fit 5 or more people in it and can drop the seats and haul when needed. What I am running into now is that the truck smells like anything I haul in it and as it gets older it's harder to get rid of it. Just recently we had a house fire that I went to and then put my gear in the back as usual when I was done, now my whole truck smells like fire.

I think the new F150 with the longer box would be nice, seats 6 and I can put a cap on the back. It's a tough decision. I might as well just save my money for retirment in 30 years.

It's good to see that others have contimplated the same idea.

Oh, BTW, here is the link describing the incentives, it is both 0% and rebate! Incentive
