Hello ive got all of my bolts loose on my 1986 ford f150 aod pan except for one, this one is right above the crossmember and i cant get the angle right to get full pressure on it. does anyone how can loosen the bolt without screwing up the top of the bolt head anymore?
One of those little universal things you put on a ratchet to get the angle you need? they're made just for this purpose. possibly jack the tranny/motor up a little and get some clearance to get a regular wrench in there.
I used a swivel socket (short socket with a built-in universal) in the appropriate size--worked like a charm. It cost about $5 from Sears; I'm sure other places have them as well.
i used one of the swivel sockets and it almost made it worse it kept on slipping off
I can get a wrench on it but no room to turn it
And i really dont want to take that C-member off because all of the weight of the tranny on it,i guess I will if i have too
It's really not that big of a deal. Like JD717 said, raise the tranny. Take out the two bolts for the tranny mount, use a jack to gently lift the tranny up as high as it will go and you should have enough clearance to get the bolt out. Just don't jack on the pan.
