Hey guys, Thought maybe you could help me with something. My old B2 is acting up. I can't get it to run. Here's the story, I was given the car about two weeks ago, and it had a dead battery, replaced the battery and it cranked right up, ran great. I wired up a cd player, and put in a msd ignition, ran perfect started on time, every time. So I didn't work on it for the weekend, and I came back to it, and now it wont start at all. I replaced the starter and alternator, and the starter selenoid, and still doesn't turn over. I checked all fuses, all were fine, It gets fuel all the way up to the fuel pressure relief valve, and it sparks all the way to the plugs. I know it's trying to crank, because you can put your hand over the intake and it sucks...I'm running out of ideas, any suggestions? Also, I removed the msd thinking it may have defected, and no difference. The transmission is bad, but I don't think that has anything to do with it.
Are the fuel injectors firing? Are the plugs wet with gas after trying to start (to indicate that fuel is getting into the cylinders)? how much pressure is there at the fuel rail? will it start if you squirt some starting fluid into the intake?
sorry for such the long reply, I had work and taking care of my child on the to-do list. I couldn't tell if the plugs were wet. I took off the intake pipe, and sprayed starting fluid in them, the engine turned over as normal, the only difference is a cloud of grey smoke came out the tail pipe. then died once more.
checked. it is firing at the plugs. I haven't changed the wires since the last time, but it was running fine 3 weeks ago. well, the firing order at least...thanks to everyone trying to help.
I checked the plugs...how moist should they be at the tips, as in, very noticable that there is gas on them? I pulled 2 plugs, and neither smelled like gas and they werent moist...so I'm assuming, unless I did something weird or wrong that there isn't fuel...so I'm gonna trace down the injector wires and test for power. I'll post the report after I'm done, by the way, can anyone tell me where the run wire is on the bronco II? like exactly, me and wiring diagrams and the best of friends when they are in haynes manuals.
reset your inertia switch, maybe the fuel pump isn't running. the other issue would be that the injectors stopped firing, but i'm sort of doubting that. if you can hear the pump run for a few seconds when you turn the key to "run", then you should be good to go. the other fuel delivery possibility is that the pump relay crapped out. another possibility is that the pump in the tank took a dump. yet another is a blown fuse. and even another is if the gas tank level is too low.
I pulled the fuel rail yesterday, sprayed compressed air through it, replaced the injectors, and bled all the air out at the relief valve...still..nothing, truck has a half tank of new gas in it, and I'm sure that the fuel pump is working as it should....I'm pretty sure its electronic.
I've just decided to say screw it and do a 5.0 swap. I have a new wiring harness ordered so the trucks gonna get a good powerplant....hey, who can beat a 302 EFI with 43,000 for 163.00? and yes, I paid 63.00 for the AOD transmission.
And when your swapped in engine fails to fire, what are you going to do then? I'm pretty sure it's a fuel delivery problem, which you'll have to fix -regardless- of keeping the original engine or swapping in a 5.0. *shakes head*
where else would fuel be delievered too? I get it all the way to the injectors, which have power too them? I've seen them spray fuel, the fuel pressure regulator was replaced with an oem part, fuel filter is new, all lines were inspected, the pump was replaced, trust me, it's not fuel delivery. It's something electrical..and anyways,
I have all the parts really to do the swap...and might as well...it's gonna be a resto/swap...new wiring, I'm sticking a mustang dash in...and re-upholstering all the interior...It'll be good as new when im done. and it'll be custom..which was really what I was shooting for in the beginning...
I'll probably just rebuild my v6 and sell it...the v8's almost done getting rebuilt...With the truck being free, it freed up a lot of options for me over paying for it.
hmm. I'd pull codes then. only other issue is if your valvetrain isn't rotating / operating and / or the rings are so worn that there isn't enough compression to run. It doesn't even act like it'll fire at all?
After I finish breaking the motor down I'll inspect all of that.. I removed it today, and pulled off the upper and lower intake manifolds, tomorrow I'll finish breaking it down for the most part. After that I'm gonna have all the parts cyrogenically treated, But hey, I usually do import 4 bangers, so it's kinda cool to get some hands on here.
