I just bought a '06 Expedition a few months back with 10,000 miles. Great vehicle that cost a lot of $$$. I'm getting pretty stiff with arthritis these days and find it hard to turn around for backing, also the headrests interfere with rear vision. I find I can get a back up camera and combination navigation system for $1300. The navigation GPS screen switches to back up monitor when the vehicle is in reverse. Do you guys (and gals) think this is worth while? $1300 is lotsa $$ but the camera could (maybe) prevent an accident.
I have the Pioneer AVIC-Z1 with camera mounted under the rear spoiler on my 06 Expy and it is added protection when there are snowbanks and shrubs as the rear sensors do not accurately pick these up. I also find it usefull keeping an eye on my toys on the trailer.
That is alot of money if the main reason is for the back up camera. I've been thinking of getting one for my expy and found one that comes in black & white, color or wireless, it also includes the monitor. It looks like a simple plug and play. You can check it out at this site. www.roadmasterusa.com it's the "VRBCS300". I've also seen this same system on e-bay, with prices ranging from $140.00-175.00. Not bad for a complete system, I just might buy one for the front of my expy too.
Good luck, once you choose and install your system post some pics for the rest of us to see.

Tim, could you send some pics of your camera installation? I would appreciate it as I am considering the same
I recently bought a camera system from Auto Zone for $99 and had it installed last week for $78. No navagation system. It works pretty well, although the TV monitor (color) is pretty small. I'll try it awhile and upgrade to a larger monitor if necessary. The camera mounts on the top of the license plate and looks like a license plate light.
Bad news. It was very cloudy today. The image on the monitor was quite dark. I didn't have time to mess with the system--I hope there is a brightness or contrast adjustment.
I'm told you can find them at radio shack pretty cheap too. The person who told me about it was happy with his. Haven't looked into it for sure though.
No brightness adjustment on the monitor. The manufacturer's hot line stated that their new monitors do have a brightness adjustment and they would exchange my old one for one of the new ones at no charge. I'll do something, don't know what yet though.
You can buy just a back up camera and monitor at Wal-Mart for $130 or so... The camera attaches to the top of your license plate and sends the picture wirelessly to the monitor. We've been thinking about getting the same thing for ours.

I have an 07 Expedition and was looking for a rear spoiler.. where abouts did you get yours?
Target etrailer.com and autoanything.com have a camera and moniter system for $99 w/ a 2.5 in monitor and is wireless or can be hard wired with a cable to any moniter system. the supplied monitor was contrast, brightness and view 4 angle adjustments. I installed it on my E350 direct w/ a switch so I can use it as a rearview mirror when windows are blocked, but even easier to run off the reverse lights.

Reason: typo
This is a pretty old thread. Long ago I did have a much better system installed--with auto brightness, bigger monitor, etc. Cost was about $300 and it works well even with backup lights at night. This thing has saved me from a lot of problems--everybody should have one IMHO.
