I just destroyed the tranny, slips so bad right now had to turn 5000rpm just to pull it into the yard. funny thing is that with the tranny slipping that bad today I still got first in modified and 4th in open class, wonder whats gonna happen when I finally get a tranny in this thing that actually works. Dang wish I hadn't bought that block last month could have used that for a new tranny oh well, I suppose selling blood is an option.
my tranny did that after 5 grand neutral drops in 3ft deep mud, i was revin to like 3 grand doin 5mph it did it untill i left the mud pit and on the way out something went thunk my tranny stopped slippin and i started gaining speed.
Gee I don't know what would have blown it up, I mean leaving the line at 5000rpm, and slam shifting it at 7200+rpm without letting up on the throttle while pushing 900hp surely wouldn't have had much to do with it would it? It's been giving me troubles shifting for 2 yrs and I didn't go through it this year so it's got over a season on it, and finally just gave out the clutches which is fine cause I was gonna rebuild one before the end of the month, but now I am sick of rebuilding transmissions and just want to get one to work right.
I was there, and he was still running good even with the tranny screwing up like usual.
Sad part is, he put in a second seat. Worst part is, he told me it was so he could take me for a ride and show me how it REALLY feels. That..in referrence to my not making it out of the stall of his old converter.....in first gear....
I'm not looking forward to next races, though. July will NOT be friendly sitting on that hill.
Um I already have one of those, and no I ain't investing in a toploader, it's hard enough to shift fast enough, I don't see myself going through 4 gears in under 4 seconds in a manual trans.
Well I guess the first part of a plan should involve the old lady and a street corner. But I doubt that will happen sooooooo.
Well the plan would be to buy a tranny already built and bolt it in, but funds won't allow for that, so I have a spare trans from a 79 F150, gonna gut it, full roller conversion, alto clutches, Rcode servo, E intermediate lever and whatever other mods I need to handle 1000hp, probably call broader performance and see what he can put together for a kit so I don't have to waste my time finding the individual pieces, then just build a new one.

Sounds good. Jay should be able to set you up with a matched package that'll do you right. Sounds like you've got all the right components in mind. I always got sick of fiddeling with the auto too, but its the only way to go for mudrags. As smooth as I have my 435 setup, I predict a jam between 2nd and 3rd somtime this season costing me a race. Ah well, thats why its primarily a mudbogger. So, how much you charging for the old lady?

not to jack the thread, but i had that happen once and it irritated me so i went to low range and use 3rd, then it's a straight shot into fourth. alot quicker and you're about the same ratio wise. i try not to shift, 150 feet isn't too far and i seldom get into the limiter, of course i put in a 6800 chip for it also....
Yea, 150' isn't far but my motor spins up so fast I have to shift. I've never tried starting out in 3rd low, I'll have to see what thats like beforehand. Because your right, the 3-4 is a piece of cake its the 2-3 that has to be nailed exactly right.
Personally, I think Rob just needs a pneumatic shifter like the ferrari's have
i did the math one time and it was like a 1% speed loss in 3rd gear and 1.5-2% loss in 4th.. seems to be a bit better holeshot in low though. you've got alot more motor though so it may be a 'bit' harsher on things.. not that you'd ever do anything to abuse parts....
i concur on the airshifter though... maybe even the paddle shifter on the steering wheel?
