The other day the check engine light came on, pulled the code: P1935.
Auto Zone said, bad glow plug, bank #1.
Do I need four glow plugs? Or is a relay bad? Which side is bank #1?
Bank 1 is the passenger side. If you need to replace 1 why not the other 3. The hard part is getting the valve cover off.
Check the wire harness/valve cover gasket for melting, bad connections. You can determine which GP is bad at this connector. Someone else will chime in and give the exact pinout for this connector.
I am currently dealing with this problem. GPR went bad and Melted rear outer VC plug bank 1, UVC harness plug bank 2. Am having to replace both VCG, rear plug repair, uvc harness, all 8 glow plugs (while i'm under there), GPR ( doing the gpr switch mod). The plugs that go into the VCG is wired as follows-glow plug/injector/ground/injector/glow plug
As for getting the passenger side VC off, Under the silver insulation covering the a/c box is a small vacuum box that attaches to the a/c box by 2 small screws (note- when trying to put the lower screw back in, put screw in socket and take some plumbers tape and wrap around screw and socket to hold in place, when tightened, just pull socket free). Lift front of VC up (moving wiring harness alittle), then push a little backward and up, then pull forward.
For driver side, loosen airbox clamps and remove tube, then loosen clamps on tube from aluminum housing to turbo (dont pull yet), on rear of VC is a small housing with two phillips head screws, remove these, wrench off two bolts holding aluminum housing to VC bracket, then pull up and out aluminum housing and tube(note- under housing is two small spacers that the screws go thru and two rubber o rings, be very carefull to capture these before they drop into valley). The valve cover will then come out pretty easy after bolts are removed.
I got all my parts from the local ford stealer as the International dealer here has employed Rocket scientists in the parts dept. They(IH) told me there is no such kit ot repair just the plug that goes into the VC. The ford part # is F7TZ-14489-BA , description-Sleeve 073650 $48.79. For the VCG, #F4TZ-6584-A, Gasket 111775 $50.14 apiece.
The plugs that go into the VCG is wired as follows-glow plug/injector/ground/injector/glow plug
your close but not exactly. the center wire is the high side wire for the injectors and the other injector wires you stated are the low side wires. everything else you said is right on!

Thank you, I stand corrected. That was how it was explained to me. I too am learning about the engines.
Also, the pins that go inside the weather pack plug will need to be bought seperatly. The part #'s are- pins-1661875c1, rubber rings- 1652325c1.
These part #'s are for international and are about .30 to.40 cents apiece.

CLICK HERE to go to an excellent article done some time ago by a member of another board. The only change is in the part number for the glow plugs - they are now ZD-11 from AutoZone and come in a Ford parts bag with a Ford part number. They are the Beru for Motorcraft plugs that seem to work the best. Whatever you do DO NOT use Autolites, they are prone to swelling in the heads and can either seize (an inconvenience at replacement time) or break off (a VERY expensive repair, as usually the block is damaged and you don't even have a core when engine replacement comes along). I would test per the procedures in the above linked article and replace all four under a valve cover if you have to remove it.
