so just as long as i line my rotor up with number one on the cap it shouldnt much matter where number one is at on the distributor weather it points at the fender or at the piston itself
That's right. If your engine is on TDC of the firing stroke and the damper mark is at 0 or so on the timing plate. If your rotor is way off the dist may be in 180 degrees off , that is if it was removed and replaced and the engine was turned when the dist was out. The timing marks will line up TWICE in No1 cylinders 4 cycles. Once at the correct TDC of the firing stroke and once at TDC of the intake stroke. If the dist was replaced when the timing marks were lined up on the intake stroke, it will be 180 degrees out of time and the rotor will most likely point at the 1 or 2 O'Clock position on the cap looking at it from the drivers side fender.
My engine is set as follows -- Looking at the dist from the drivers side fender----The TFI module on the dist points at 6 O'Clock (almost straight at you) One of the cap screws is at the 5 O'Clock position and number ONE WIRE is located at 7 O'Clock or the second wire tower clockwise from the above mentioned cap screw. This is with the damper mark at 0 on TDC of the firing stroke.
i got it running, it sounds good. i woke up the whole neiborhood running it open header. My best friend compared it to the sound of a cummins without a turbo.
