I have the old cruiseomatic transmission in my 67'. My problem is that until my transmission gets warmed up good it won't shift into third, it shifts into second just fine. After it is warmed up and shifts into third the first time it shifts just fine. I was wondering if anyone knew what caused this.
are the vacume lines hooked up to the tranny?? i had a similar problem and i had just accidentaly disconnected the vacume lines. OOPS. they should come from the vacume tree on your manifold near the carb.

Generaly, What happens with older transmissions is the seals harden, and the parts wear... There are two ways to go, try Type F fluid, or what's called Lube Guard. As your Transmission builds heat, the fluid thins, and allows slippage, and leakage inside the trans.
Ok, don't be offended by this question. Are you sure you have it in the right gear? I had a cruisomatic in my 65 Galaxie and recall from the owners manual, that what we generally consider to be the drive position was not the correct drive position. In that position the trans shifted directly from second into third and never used first gear! The position we general think of as 2nd was in fact the correct drive position. If you allready knew that, ignore me. They did that from my understanding of the owners manual for improved take-off in bad weather? go figure
If the trans is giving you trouble and old trick I learned from my Grandpa is to pour a little brake fluid in with the trans fluid. It's worked some miracles for me before. Suppose to help lubricate and tighten the bands in the transmission or something. Not positive but I know I've seen results with it. Just a thought, if you're left with nothing else to try it could save you some time before needing a rebuild or something. Who knows. Good luck.
I had a 68 with a similar problem...it turned out to be the clutches were finally worn out. After a month or so I ended up putting a rebuild kit in the C6. That went just fine. Just follow the haynes manual and all the pictures.
67,
Your trans suffers from an ailment called "morning sickness". Transmission repair shops have directed me to add 1/2 a quart tranny fluid over the recommended level. The fact of the matter is there isn't much time left until maintainence will be required. A clogged filter could cause the same symptom.
Good luck with the old girl,
