Hey all. I am new to the site and just bought a 2000 F250 superduty with the 7.3 diesel.
The truck came out of Canada and has a Roda Deaco Valve installed. The valve acts as an emergency air shut off. Does anyone know how these may alter the performance and if removing it is a good idea? Any help is appreciated!
Thanks, Andy
if it is anything i am thinking about, it is a valve in the intake somewhere (usually pre-turbo) that closes off flow and thus shutting down the engine. these engines are electronic, so it's nearly impossible to make them run away (on accident). they also shut down electronically, cutting the signal to fire the injectors. the old two stroke detroits we worked on in school had a emergency shutoff valve in them. if they were going to run away, a manual switch could be pulled and close off the airflow going into the blower. so, it thus shuts down the engines. i do not think you need one, and i never seen them before, so... sell it on ebay and get as much as you can for it. unless you want to have it shown in your signature...
Thanks for the input guys. The truck I bought was a fleet vehicle and I suspect it was used around some type of refinery or oil field. The Roda Deaco valve is designed so that if there is fuel or combustible vapor in the air that might cause the engine to over run the engine can be shut down by cutting off the air supply. It has an emegency on switch in the cab. In any event I will probably leave it as is.
Thanks!
Andy
I actually have an old 2 stroke diesel in a 68 ford my grandpa build it back when the truck and motor were new, its a beast and it has one of those incase it trys to run away which i guess it tried to do once
