Help Please

i got a 1994 ranger..... runs fine i guess but on random occasions its wont start and i have to reset the fuel pump thingy under the passanger side dash for it to run.....
any suggestions on what it may be?
thats the best i can describe

The "fuel pump thingy" is the inertia switch that cuts power to the fuel pump in case of an accident. It sounds like it is tripping too easily, the only thing you can do is replace it.

I agree...it's not exactly in a good place to begin with, mine's been kicked before, makes things interesting. It shouldn't be tripping like that.

Then again, I hit a double brick mailbox and it didn't go off, then I tapped it with the vacuum one day cleaning out my truck and it tripped.

so then i would have to replace the fuel pump or that relay under the passenger side??
i allready got to replace my sending unit because my gas gauge doesnt work and it sucks because im reading the odemeter and yea.... anyways
so would it be good just to replace the fuel pump and the relay?

Replace the inertia sensor.

No, inertia sensor, and relay are 2 different things.

The inerita sensor "thingy", is in the cabin foot well & can be kicked by a size 9 shoe!!!!

The fuel pump relay is underhood in the power distribution box & routes power through the inertia switch to the fuel pump.

As Bill suggested, sounds like the inertia switch is acting out, or someone like big Bertha is kicking it & causing it to trip!!!!
