I have a question for a knowledgeable expert. Recently my glovebox door failed and came open, before it had a lot of spring pressure and worked flawlessley. It now justs hangs open and passengers legs hit it. I am wondering how this glovebox works, so I can fix it.
There are 2 springs, one on either side. they are easy to see from undernieth, but I believe the inside of the glove box has to be removed to install the springs. I have a new set of springs from LMC that have yet to be installed, mine does the same thing if I hit the gas too hard.
The thing that bothers me about these glov boxes, or mine anyway is the box its self are made of cardboard. I think I will build one out of metal.
Luckily my springs are still working.
As stated by 66 beater; sounds like either your springs are broken or the spring ends could of either pop out of the anchor holes. But probably/ more likely broke springs. You can purchase springs and even a new glove box from numerous suppliers; as well as new **** and tire pressure decal for them as well now day's.
Thanks for the info, bought a spring from the hardware store, jammed one end of the spring into the back of the cardboard, the other end onto the glovebox door, works good! Would like to do a proper repair, but more pressing projects get first priority. I also am disappointed with the cardboard, already blew a hole threw mine.
