Transmission Problem

I have a 95 f-250,7.3 with a/t,223000 miles on it. In the last week or 2,while drivin, the indicator light on the gear shift handle, for manually kickin off the o/d starts blinkin, shifts very hard, and causes the tran. to lose fluid. We changed filter and fluid, this solved problem for about 50 miles then it started again. doin it to frequently to be coincidence. Any you fellers had this prob. Any suggestions for fixin.

No buckin, fluid not low enough to cause a problem, speedo doesnt act up at all. We have yet to run diagnostics on it.

just pulled mine after 122k worth of service. Nothing but shavings, gunk, the wrong size filter, and worn out parts inside. $3000 and four days later..all new with all the current Ford upgrades and a couple of mods for towing the 5w. Hurts at first and not nearly as fun as spending it on say... a Banks system, but money well spent.

Given the age of the trans, I'd suspect you're about to lose a clutch pack. The PCM sees the difference in what it expects for RPM & what actually sees; if there's enough difference, it throws the trans error (flashing O/D light) and puts the trans in "limp" mode (tries to survive long enough to get to a shop by boosting pressure). This is detected by checking engine RPM, gear position & VSS in rear-end. Mine used to do that when I'd pull a big load up a steep hill before I got the new tranny.

That's part of the tranny's guts. It'll cost between 2000 & 3000 to get a trans built, depending on the parts installed.

Thanks for input fellas, thought I might get out of this with a module or sensor of some sort, but looks like I might have to pay the piper on this one. At any rate I`ve certainly got my moneys worth out of this one. Any of you boyz know of a tranny repair around Lebanon Tn,that I can trust to do it right.

You might want to check out Jasper or the Ford rebuilds. They are priced competitively with having yours rebuilt and have a warranty that will be honored anywhere. They will have all of the latest upgrades for your application. Both brands were available from my Ford dealer and the Jasper brand is available through their dealers. you can buy the Ford unit and install it yourself but the Jaspers are installed only by their authorized dealers.

If you do it yourself, don't forget to flush out the cooler and lines. Ford dealers add a Magnifine in line trans filter to their units as well.

my tranny was rebuilt from jasper. well the guy i bought the truck from had it done there. they gave me a 90k mile warrenty or 3 year. ill go double check it in the morning, i have the slip in my truck. so far the tranny is doing very very good. fluid is good colored and no slipage at all. i think its been 3 years and i dont know how many miles are on it now.{since tranny rebuild} and those miles were all pulling miles. he pulled a 20k LB trailer, and now i have it. dont pull a trailer to much but i haul lots of stuff in the bed. <1000-3000 LB's> and the tranny is still nice and strong. NO Slippage, so thats who i would recomend. Jasper engine and trans.
