No joke, 45-50 lawns in a week woudl be busy busy busy.
Granted I only mow more as a part time thing since I have a 40hr+ work week and I'm just mowing to pay for the mower but my 6 lawns keep me more than busy for an entire day. Of course one is an entire city block, one is about 1 1 1/4 acre and the others aren't too aweful big (3 of them are right next to each other at opposing side of a not-busy intersection, I just park the truck in a central spot of them and mow all, then trim all, then blow them all and I'm done!).

Birdhunter, your biz sounds carbon copy to my start, I was a 9 dollar an hour truck driver decided to make some much needed extra cash, bought some old used stuff advertised and bingo I had 7 accounts first season part time, and the big surprise to me was that those 7 lawns done on Saturday made me more than 1/2 my truckers 5 day pay check
Cuda444, another Lawnsiter , sure is a small world, the family is growing I feel warm and fuzzy all over .........
I'm not planning on leaving my current job, I work at a State University and the health insurance/retirement/vacation/sick/disability benefits are too good for me to leave. Probably to be able to carry all the same insurance working for myself I'd have to make three times my current yearly income to afford it.
I just got married three months ago and we've been paying stuff off like you wouldn't believe, we'd like to build a house next year or the year after so the lawns service is a way to pay for the mower and a few other amenities right now. Plus my wife has begged me to slow down on the home improvement projects so I have to have something to do to fill my time, and alos somethgin to do to justify some things, like my Stihl leaf blower and the Stihl FS 76 that I saw in the classifieds that I thought was one heck of a bargain that I could not pass up.
Patatoe, how big are these 45-50 lawns? 36" is a pretty tiny mower deck for that many lawns, IMHO.
Well I'm not entirely sure how big an acre actually is. All of the places we mow are residential. Most of them take about fifteen to twenty minutes to complete. But the fifty are usually cut in two days, I'm not cutting them over the entire week.
The 36" is almost too big for some houses alot of them have fenced in backyards and most of the gate are, yep, about 36'', so that's as big as we can go.
Patatoe, I gotcha. We used to have a few lawns like that. Small little lots with the fenced in back yard, so we always had a small mower for those. It got to the point where it just wasn't worth keeping those tiny ones for us.
Keep up the good work. Sounds like your business is doin just fine Did you ever decide on a stander or no?
If you meant an attachment for the Exmark, if I can find one I will more than likely buy it. If you mean a stand-on lawnmower, they were too expensive. Around 5-6thousand. My dad doesn't think that it would be worth it for just 40-50 lawns.
Yeah, trust me the business is doing fine. Having trouble keeping up... don't know if that's a good or bad sign. Thankfully its not just lawns though. I don't know how some of you guys can do them every day. I'd be too worn out.
EDIT: just looked at your gallery Cuda how big is your business?
Right now we have 35 lawns, it's a part time thing as my dad works full time and I've been away at college for the past 4 years. The red house pictured has over 66,000 sq ft of grass to be cut weekly. It is all fertilized regularly and about 75% has irrigation come on 3 times a day. Needless to say, this time of year, you've gotta stay on top of that one. We've also done a pretty good job weeding out the smaller lawns that aren't really worth it. Most of our lawns take at least a half hour to cut. So even with 35 lawns, I have my work cut out for me when I get hoem from school.
Now that I'm done with school, I dunno what he plans to do. I'd like to take on more construction work, but we'll see.
