Well it was fun. I couldn't justify owning the F250 anymore. I was paying a ton of money in monthly payments and fuel for something that basically just took me back and forth to work and pull a very small trailer. So I'm going to get a older 4 banger Toyota 4x4 and try to forget about the fun of having big power.
Thanks for all the help and fun times here at FTE.
Oh yeah my girlfriend actually cried when it drove away.
Hey I sure cant blame you. The fuel prices anymore is really hurting a lot off people. I just filled my truck the other day $100.00 ouch that hurts. It hurts but youll have more money in the long run down the road thats what counts. I dont have to drive my truck to work but I am not driving as much as Iused to due to the fuel prices. Good Luck an dont leave us
Now I'm going to make you really cry - I've had two 4-cylinder 4x4 Toys - a 5-speed truck, and a 5-speed 4Runner.
The truck got 15 to 15.5 in town, 18+ highway, the 4Runner got 16+ town, 19+ highway.
My PSD gets 14 to 15 town (depends who is driving it) and 20+ highway. Not to mention diesel is currently 25 cents/gallon cheaper than regular - oh, wait. Neither would run on regular, both wanted mid grade. Make that 35 cents.
Of course, oil changes are much more expensive. Oh, wait. With the bypass filter in place, oil changes now cost less than the Toy (much less frequently, anyway).
Really, my F250 costs more to run than my Toy did. But not as much more as you might think. Now, if you got a 4x2 Toy, there would be a bigger difference. Of course, if my F250 was a 4x2 AND a 6-speed instead of an auto 4x4...
A fella has to do what a fella has to do, but dang...........
The fuel prices have drove me into making an Appleseed: Working on collecting the parts now.
Wow, that hurts. It must of felt like selling your own child...
My wife used to own a Toyota Corolla-1991 model I believe. That thing got 39-42 mpg, sure wish she had it now (now she drives a Pathfinder, and my PSD gets better mileage than that thing)

Wow..that's a bummer. Hopefully having that monthly payment in your pocket will make it worth it.
What are you guys complaining about your price of fuel is considerably cheaper than it is here in Canada. I'am right now paying 4.06 CND or 3.69 US for a US gallon of diesel fuel. Regular gas is 4.44 CND or 4.03 US per gallon. My 95 F-450 PSD gets about 12 mpg it costs me about 45-50 dollars every 3 days to drive the truck back and forth to work its a hour round trip so 3 trips 3 hours.
I had a 99 4runner that never saw dirt and I would get 13-18 mpg depending on my driving. I also had a 90 4Runner with a straight axle over conversion with gears, cage, custom jeep eating suspension and I averaged 13 MPG. I sold the rock crawler to trick out my SD. I am about to build a buggy crawler on a sami.
The price of regular fuel is only a few cents cheaper around here then diesel but I had other reasons for selling it.
I'm in a financial rut and I'm trying to reduce my debt.
I owed $15,500 on the Ford.
The Toyota will run me about $3,000-$4,000 total
If the turbo went out on the Ford that would run over $1,000
injectors $1,200 +
clutch $600.00 ?
two batteries $$
bigger tires $$
The truck doesn't have any problems but if it ever did it would put me more in the hole.
I feel all the regular maintenance was costing me a lot also. More expensive fluids, and amount of fluids needed. etc
I can't think of anything on the old Toyotas I won't be able to fix myself. I'm real comfortable working on them also because of how simple they are.
I still think the PSD's are great and I'm not bashing them or any owners of them but I simply couldn't justify paying on it anymore.

Sorry you had to sell the truck. Sometime we have to do things that aren't so fun though. But, whatever you do, don't get rid of that girl. It sounds like she's got her priorities straight.

I have never even rode in a 4 runner but I hear that they use more fuel because of the added weight. Did your 4 runners have the 3.0/3.4 V6? Manual or auto's?
I did have a 96' Tacoma before the Ford it only got about 16-17 mpg with the 3.4 V6.
