Johnnybad, the 390 is the best there is. The 460 is a very good engine but is awfully heavy and is bigger than you really need. A well thought out 390 can give you 450hp or better and 500lbs-ft of torque. Is that enough for what you're looking to do ? DF

The FE series, including the 390, are great motors, and I'm partial to them. That said, there are some advantages to the 460. The 460 has more in the way of readily available performance parts, and you have more options in OD transmissions. If you already have a 390 or other FE in your truck, though, the effort and expense to swap to a 460 just ain't worth it.
