A private party has an F250 supercab 4X4 5sp w/241.000 miles on it. It has air, power windows, door locks and drivers seat. The only problem it has is the casette doesn't work but the raido does and the syncro in 3rd gear is out, he said when shifting up, it was pretty easy, just let off the gas and it will shift, down shifting was not really possible, and the battery in one of the remotes is dead, but the other one works. He has had this truck for 7 years. He said he gets 20 miles to the gallon, which I think he does, since I get 18-19 with my 89 non-turbo. Oh yea, he wants $5,500 - way below NADA. He said it is low because of the transmission and the high miles, and he got his dads' with 100,000 less miles on it and just wants to sell it. So what do you think? What should I look at or for? Is it worth driving 50 miles on Saturday to test drive it, or just walk away? Thank-you for your opinions.
What year?? Sounds like a fair price to me. Check it over good and look for signs of dust getting past the intake filter. The sycro in the tranny is a pain but can be lived with....???? I bought new battery's for one of my remotes..Only about 5 bucks.

Sorry, it's a 1995. When you talk about the intake filter, are you talking about the air filter? Thanks.
sounds good to me. tanny could be repaired by a good shop and the battery can be repalced in the remote easily and i would just put an aftermarket radio in it. the price sounds good if there is no rust and the body is straight and engine is in good shape.

Pull the tube loose from the filter box and look for dust or grime inside. A little oil not a problem but grit could be fatal. Also pull the intake tube loose just in front of the turbo and check the blades they should not look frosted.
Ask the owner if he has changed coolant regularly and kept the anti- cavitation additive at proper levels. If he does't know what you are talking about pass on it.
