I have 35" MTRs on my truck right now, and I love em. Can go through stuff in 2wheel that I had to lock in the hubs for with my old BFG T/A's. They seem to be wearing well and aren't real bad for noise on the highway. I'd recomend them, although the price on them seems to be steadily climbing =-(
No. Well, I guess it depends. They aren't fresh-off-the-showroom-floor stocker's type of quiet, but they don't howl like bias swampers. You can't hear them over the wind noise at 65.
I know a lot of people don't talk about them, but Kumho tires are great for mileage. The Road Venture MT 834 is rated higher than the BFG MT on Tirerack.com. The 35x12.5x15 is $141 plus shipping.
Tirerack also has the BFG MT T/A KM for $175 plus shipping.
I've saved up to $100 by buying a set of tires from Tirerack and then having an independent garage spin balance and mount the tires.
I'll be trying out the Kumho MTs when my current set of all terrain tires wear out.
Kumho Radial Powerguards. My brother and cousin ran those on their trucks. They got some decent mileage out of the tires. My same cousin and I had procomp x-terrains, his didnt last long at all, mine were worn down to 50% in 16,000KM! thats 10,000 miles!!!! I blew one out at 8,000KM and had it replaced. That one is at about 75% now. Talk about crap. They did work great offroad tho. I didnt like them in the snow tho, my truck is a diesel crew cab (plenty of weight) and I had to lock my hubs in to turn around in my flat driveway when it was covered in snow. Now I have Goodyear Wrangler "silent armor" on my truck, my driveways covered in ice and I can turn around in 2wd without spinning. I like the procomps, but IMO not worth the funds they run you. Because of that I wouldnt touch another procomp tire unless it was a rig getting trailered to the bush and back.
Goodyear and BFG are the big dogs in tires, Firestone has a mud tire out too now if you havent seen it search it up.
just an after thought....my 'new' tires I bought used from the tire store. Up here everyone and their dog has a truck so big tires werent hard to find, plus winter hit so everyone went out and got brand new tires and the shop was overflowing with used trade-ins. I paid $60 a tire, 3 are 80% and one is like 99.9999%. Have you asked to see their used pile?
edit: On my bronco back in the day as a kid I bought a set of used Baja Radial Widetrack M/T's. They had about 50% on them, and they were still on the bronco 2 years and 2 owners later. They were on there last leg, but you could see the tread pattern still. Those were the fattest 12.5" wide tire Ive ever seen to this day. They looked like 14.5" wide ones.
