96 engine/trans into 93?

Does anybody know if a 96 5.8L with E4OD trans be able to be swapped into a 93 that currently has a 5.0L with E4OD? I know I would probably need the ECM for the 5.8 and trans, but what about the wiring harneses and sensor hook ups, would I just be able to use most of my original harness or do I ned to splice in the harness from the 96.
Thanks,
Shiny

Assuming you're talking about an F150; the 96 will be OBDII whereas the 93 will not. Not sure how much impact this has though.

You could do it, but you would need a computer for the tranny/engine combo. Yeah, you already have one, but as KW160 pointed out, you need one that's OBD-I. The 93 isn't mass air, is it?

My system is speed density, and the 96 I believe is mass air OBD-II system, so I think I would have a lot of problems trying to wire the harness up in my 93 Ford. I saw a good deal on a 96 5.8L w/ beefed up E4OD trans and just wondered how hard it would be to swap (wiring/computer wise). I think I would need the computer from a 96 and the complete engine/trans wiring harness to make it work correctly.

I have a 92 cab on my 94 with a 5.8 and e4od.a auto electric shop tried to deal with the wiring differences but the trans still didn't work properly.I swapped in the underdash harness from the old 94 cab and all was good.Even with the newer computer and old harness there was 2 many diffences.swapping the harness was pretty easy,I removed the entire dash swapped the wiring over and bolted the dash back in.

1996 truck is not OBD II system regardless if it is speed density or MAF system. Not all 1996 Ford truck have MAF system.

1997 is first year for Ford trucks to have OBDII system.

I "think" 1999 is the first year for heavy duty Ford trucks to have OBDII system.

Kwikford,

Not true. My 1996 F-150 (old body style) is OBDII, the data port is under the dash.
1996 F-250 and F-350s however are not OBDII

There have been many posts about this in the past.

So basically it would tough getting everthing hooked up in the swap, right?
With wiring being the main issue.

That is correct but are they functional?

Check driver side of engine compartment area. You'll find another EEC IV connector.

Kwickford,

The under-dash OBDII plug is functional, I have hooked the auto-zone scanner to it. Also there is no EEC IV connector under the hood, I have checked for it in the past.

Also the owners manual states that it is OBDII.
