Need help with tow wiring
Need help with tow wiring
I am getting ready to get a reciever hitch off of a buddy and have in installed soon. This is my first full size truck so keep in mind that i am new to all this and pretty ignorant when it come to towing. But the problem is, my truck doesnt have a socket to hook up trailer lights. I need to know what my options are to be able to fix this problem?
I would go to the local parts store and get one of the Hoppy plug-in harnesses for an F150. These plug in-line with the wiring for the truck tail lights so you don't have to cut or splice anything - just plug in and go.
Where does it plug in at, oh and i forgot to mention that the truck is a 93 model. I got up under the truck and i could see in the rear where there is a harness for the tail light and the a plug connection on the harness, is that where it plugs in?
It depends on what kind of trailer you want to tow. Are you going to need a wire for brakes and accessories on the trailer on top of all the lights? If you need brakes, you will need a 7 pin connector and have to run some extra wires. When I bought my truck, it had the plug and play harness, but I had to run the wires from the battery and from the brake controller separetly and combine them all to a 7pin round connector.
Hope this helps.
