The engine is blown and I'm throwing in the towel and selling my B2. I've spent a fortune on this truck and loved driving it every minute but I can't afford to fix it anymore.
I don't know what to charge for it (as much as possible, of course) or where to sell it (here or ebay?)
Can anyone give me an idea of what nice B2's with bad motors go for these days?
It's a 86 B2 4x4
Eddie Bauer
173k miles
push button 4 wheel drive
automatic
cruise
2 new tires
new brakes
no dents
fair paint - fair interior
new fuel pumpS and filter
new sensors on the engine (every freakin one)
new computer
good exhaust
no radio
I'll never get the money out of it that I put into it, but I don't want to give it away. How much? Where should I sell it?
E-Bay is the best place to sell a running vehicle, which will cost you $80 for a $1200 vehicle. It is probably the worse place to sell an under $1000 vehicle because of fee costs.
If it runs and you can drive it around the block, maybe $1000. If all it can do is sit there, $500. I can buy nice running, rust free, 4x4 BIIs with less miles all day long for $1500 in Atlanta GA.
Though the thing is you have an EB, to me that is a vehicle, if the interior is still nice, I would jump all over. For a running BII, that would add at least $200-$300 to the price, more if someone really wanted the EB edition.

I feel your pain on that one. Though think of it this way. If you financed a new vehicle, not only would you likely be making a $300+ payment every month, it would cost you a lot more in insurance and taxes. So, basically, you own it for nothing and it owes you nothing. That is how I felt when I sold mine with a bad transmission for $300. Though it still hurt a bit
Should be able to get $200-300. All the "new" stuff you have is really maintenance stuff so it doesn’t count for much. I paid $500 for a running 90 BII with all the options you mentioned minus the auto (a good thing) and 4 almost new tires. Comically enough, not having a radio isn't going to help you much. To get much out of a non runner you need it to be as complete as possible.
With that much dumped in to it. A reman motor would be worth it. I got my B2 with a bad trans.. Motor works your welcome to it. I'm going 302 so I wont need it. To change the talk here have you looked at a 302? You have the automatic trans. all ready I think the B2 came with C4's. Change the bellhousing and get the motor, headers and a rad. and your good to go. Just a though.
rebocardo- thanks, I'll try the craigslist. The truck is in the tallahassee area if you're interested.
OSin86 - thanks for the confirmation. Thats about what i thought it might get. Funny thing is, I could have really used a donor vehicle like this when I first got my B2.
dogman - I wish I'd talked to you a few months ago about that motor and I would have fixed it, but now it's gotta go.

Some came with a C5 which is basically a C4 with some slight changes. The other option for BII Autos is dog poo and isn't worthy of a powerful engine. Look at early non-OD auto BIIs for a good C5. To confirm it will have the same pan bolt pattern as a C4.

I hope you find the right buyer! I've been in your spot morethen once and it's a tough one.
Too bad about your motor. I think $300 is probably the outside you could expect, since runners are going for not much over that. I just bought a runner driver '85 in decent (but not great) shape for $200. Last fall I picked up a non-runner for $50. There's just not a huge market for B2s.
On the bright side, if you are lucky and have a C5 you could probably pull it and get close to $300 just for the tranny.
