Cruise Control Mod

I have a 85 F150 302 EFI Auto trans. The piece inside the steering column with the 2 bronze spring loaded buttons ia missing the springs and buttons to make the connections for the horn and cruise control. My question is as anyone heard of or done a mod to move the cruise control out of the steering wheel and into or on to some other device. I have researched a new harness ASSY for this and they are over $100.00 dont want to spend that much just to still look at an old worn out steering whell and a busted up horn/cruise control button Assembly. Would rather go to a aftermarket steering wheel and relocate the cruise control to some where else. the cruise controls are built into the Horn button Assembly and not off to the side.

LMC trucks may have replacement parts but most all cruise controls have the same basic controls (on, off, set, resume, coast and cancel) not all are used or given buttons. In my research of adding it to a truck I found replacement/aftermarket controls that would work on any system and they varied from in dash to door to trun signal and each style had many options!

just an update. I solved the problem and it only took about 2 hours of time and about 3 dollars in materials. since on a 85 f150 the space above the radio is wasted, i took a piece of scrap red oak i had laying around cut 2 rectangular holes in it with my mortising tool then routed the back side to give enough recess to mount flush on the backsidecut it to shape to fit nicely above the radio with my scroll saw mounted to plastic above the radio and then rewired the cruise control wires to that. The red oak sitting above the radio doesnt look totalls out of place since i am in the process of adding wood grain trim to the interior of the truck anyway using red oak. works great. and saved me a good bit of cash doing this mod not to mention i have my cruise control back after having been inop for over 2 years.
