for a new F350 V10 for me! You're playing with my head. You, sir, should be a motivational speaker. Your posts and replies to posts has gotten me so fired up to buy a new V10. I actually drove thru the lot last night looking at every SD. Three were V10, all other 6.0. I've learned more from reading your posts about the V10 than any salesman could tell me. One small item, I needed $35-40K before they would let me take ownership ... go figure.
My wife said I was an absolute crazy to live with while I was waiting for the truck, but even she says that this baby is spec'ed perfectly!! The break-in procedures for the braakes worked like a charm too. TNX Fred (And no, we'll not charge you for encouraging us to by a V10 over a diesel. I'm already saving enough in lack of aggrevation along with the joy of having other tell me that the V10 rocks!!!
Good post but after owning my 05 V10 for 18 months and Fredvon's informed posts being one of the main reasons for this ex-diesel nut taking a giant leap of faith and going back to a gasser, I feel the opposite way and I feel I owe Fred a lot.
He has refused my offer of a steak dinner so here again is my humble thanks.
Fredvon, thank you Sir, for sharing your knowledge on the Ford V10 and helping me make the best engine purchase ever. I hope someday to shake your hand in person and enjoy a warm conversation about our favorite subject.......the V10 Superduty.
I've always been a Ford guy & my dream was an F-350 diesel, but after reading all the troubles with the 6.0, I wandered down to the V-10 forum. The rest is history. I bought a V10 in April & was lucky enough to find one the dealers lot. My decision was strongly influenced by Fredvon, Wrench & some of the other contributers to this site. I expect to have this truck a very long time & am sure it will provide good service. Thanks guys.
I'm an ex-diesel owner as well (96 F-250) and I'm lovin the V10! My final decision was made after reading posts on this forum. Haven't looked back since.
Like Montana Jack I was in the market for a diesel, was even pretty tempted by the Cummins but was having a hard time with that idea. Thanks to the posts by FredVon4 and Wrenchtraveller I had confidence that the V10 would do the job for me. This '05 3V motor has no trouble moving the freight for me (4 horse gooseneck trailer, 5000lb empty, had it up to 11,700 moving my belongings to Portland, OR). The V10 will do 65 MPH up a 6% grade (Telegraph Hill, E of Laramie, WY) at 8,600ft. I would have thought I needed a diesel for performance like that, but thanks to the great guys on this forum I've got the better truck for my needs.
Ordually, I am so pleased to hear the 3 valve V10 is doing the job for you. Wow! 8600 feet up and that V10 still has the power to move that load. I think 6000 feet was about the max I hit on my recent trip. My V10 out pulls both my 7.3 PSDs and I don't think any of the newer diesels would embarass me at low elevations. Mine amazed me with how fast she can accelerate pulling my fiver and I can merge real well, real fast.
Hope your move to Portland works out well for you and we love the Oregon coast .
Montana Jack, glad to see another happy V10 owner. My V10 has never let me down and it still amazes me with it's performance. Ford designed the V10 to be an incredible workhorse and I will never understand why so many people overlook this engine choice.
I hope your V10 amazes you for years to come.
Makes me wonder what a mild turbo would do to the V10 at high elevations ...
i don't think it would need one. when i was out in HI. in april the ford v10 3 v van/tour/airport bus that took us up to the cater top on mauai "elv. 10.328." had no problem going up that 37 mile long switch back mountain road . monsta tell em what it's like

captchas,
The Ford V10 van we rode up the same mountain on Maui in January had 270,000 miles. It made me strongly consider the V10 in my truck I purchased in February, but there were none to be found.
