Here's an update on ArmyDude. He made it to Ft Carson in Colorado Springs last week, somewhat worse for wear. I met him Sunday when he brought some stuff out to my house to store while he's looking for a home for his family. He's staying in a motel for now. The 48 F-1 was destroyed in VA when a tire on the tow dolly blew, fishtailing the truck, hitting a semi, spining the whole rig, then flipping the 48 onto a guard rail. Pretty sad, I was looking forward to him storing his 48 next to mine for a while so two old trucks could chat. He had to purchase a crate motor for his chevy pu in KS, after it started making some bad noises, and had some local chevy club members help him with the swap. Sad part is, the destroyed 48 had a brand new sbc crate motor in it.
Man, what a string of bad luck! Wish there was something more we could have done for him, don't seem to be many of us (or anyone for that matter) where his Chev broke down. That would be heartbreaking to lose an old truck like that, but it sounds like he was lucky to get out of it alive! Probably some lessons to be learned there about towing with questionable equipment?
That stinks about his truck. You guys thinking what I'm thinking? I know where there is a 48-50 F-1 right now that I can pick up for cheap. Anyone interested in helping? I can call the guy and get the truck picked up, and I can even hit up my local guard unit to pitch in and help a fellow soldier boy out. I think I would much rather pull together a major help out like this, and put the fire truck on hold. Heck, I think I would even put the fire truck up for sale to help in the cost of replacing the loss of a fellow member, and defender of our freedom. I'm brainstorming. Gears are turning, and lots of smoke is rolling out my ears.
