Which Exhuast?

I have 7.3 2003 CC FX4Which exhaust system would be the best for towing big travel trailer. I have seen threads were people have replaced the muffler with a resonator for quietness. Would I loose any power with that set up and would it be cost effective to go that route ?

a mandrel-bent 4" system is really all you need. 5" is basically for sound and the pride of have a sewer pipe snaking under your truck. some claim EGT reduction too. try the MBRP system with a muffler, and if you have drone, you can add a resonator to help cut drone. or straight pipe it and never go back....

I went with a walker BTM and cat delete. I am very happy so far. There is about 100-150 degrees drop in egt's when towing and slightly better mpg. Not too loud but there is a nice rumble and if you are on any kind of budget it can't be beat.

stroker250,

While cutting out the stock muffler does hlep if you tow heavy you need ALL the EGT drop you can get. You would also be surprised at the number of systems we sell to folks that have already doen the muffler-ectomy and then still needed the extra EGT drop. They also tend to have a lot of noise complaints too. They ended up having to mess with the exhaust changes twice and it's just not worth it to most folks. Do it once and be done with it, the extra 1/2 in daimeter plus the mandrel bending makes a world of difference in CFM of flow rate.

We stock all the MBRP and AFE systems and can help you with any questions, just call if you need to.

Just ordered a 4" straight pipe kit from the turbo back with a 4-5" stainless tip from Marko at MKO Diesels should be here Wednesday.I have read alot of good from the folks that have installed the system and I couldn't beat the price $310.00 with tip to the door.

Good deal! You'll love the deep rumble of the staight piped system while cruisin the highway. Music to my ears.

I personally bought a dynomax 4 in cause it was 250 for the kit, I did change my downpipe from another company and noticed an extra 50 degree drop going to a 3.5 inch downpipe. Its really a personal choice, I like my sytem, a little drone but not bad. Would at least recommend a 4 inch mandrel bend.

A full 4" system will help lower EGTs, which are always a concern when towing. So in your case I would spring for the whole system. I recently installed a MBRP 4" system and it is not that much louder compared to stock inside the cab. From outside it is louder, but not too much.

I also have a dynomax 4" Mandrel bent exhaust. I purchased it a few years ago, it was the cat-back system. It was around 300 bucks, the sound is not that bad, but I am looking to delete the cat. Oh and the system that I installed doesnt seem to have any rust(yet!)
