Wondering if anyone knows where to get the steering stabilizer parts-the arm that is in front of the front axle(not really sure of the proper terminology for this part). Just know that mine is shot. I have a lot of freeplay in my steering wheel-have made adjustments to the steering box and fixed the steering column shaft because the bushing was worn out. I believe the problem lies in this little arm(like I said don't exactly know what it is called). Please help. Thanks.
The arm coming off of steering box is the pitman arm.The identical arm on pass side is the idler arm.Tie rods go from spindle to center link also called relay rod, drag link.
IS that your real name? Are you a male?I have a fav singer that has that name. She is one of my favorite singers!
Thanks oleblue. I'm a female. Do you have any idea where I can get these parts(besides the junkyard). Are there any aftermarket companies making the pitman arm. It's got a lot of play in the steering wheel. Thanks for the help
Shelby, Is your truck 2wd or 4wd, and are you refering to one of those units that looks like a shock absorber?

Shelby, you should be able to find the steering linkage parts at most parts stores. They aren't too expensive considering the improvement that they will make to your truck. Are you sure that the play isn't in you steering box. That's where the steering gets sloppy most often on these trucks. You really can't "adjust" it out. You should be able to find a rebiult one probably from a steering specialty shop. I think I paid about $225 for mine and it was worth every penny!
That's exactly the part I am looking for-it looks like a shock absorber. Don't have a clue to what it is called. It has all the power steering hoses hooked to it I believe. That's where I believe my steering problems lie. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
If in fact you are talking about a steering stabilizer, it won't have a bunch of hoses hooked to it and it is not the answer to your problem. A steering stabilizer is a supplemental item used to help control tire shimmy, generally on trucks with larger tires. They will help steering feel buy won't take "slop" out of your system. For the price, ~$50.00, I think they are very worthwhile.
Shelby, I just have one of those hanging on the wall, and wondered if that was what you were describing. It is supposed to be a dampering device. I haven't lookoed so I can't recommend a place to find one, but would suggest JC Whitney and Summit Racing.

Hey Shelby, there are two suppliers that I know of both with websites... I've been using LMC truck and Mac's antique. Mac's antique has an online order site and will send you a catalaog free, and LMC has an online form you fill out , they send a catalog, and you can order by fax or phone. I compare part to part pricing although LMC usually has a few that Mac's doesn't, but both seem reasonable and ship pretty quick. I've probably spent a couple thousand at each.
