Steering Problems 72 Ford P'up
Hi I bealeave what you have is power assist power steering.I am fighting the same battle with my 72/77 Johnny Cash truck.I have not gotten to the bottom of the problem.The packing in that cylinder could very well be the problem.I have not tryed it yet.I also think the power steering pump may not be putting out enough pressure.What I did to make it driveable for now the parts are expencive.I took the control valve,the ugly thing on the drag link with 4 hoses going to it has Garrison written on the bottom of if. I took that apart and installed (2) 13/16 machine washers on either side of the spring opposite of the o-ring. O-rings are sold at any hardware store, the only drawback to this is that you may loose some of your assist. You might want to get a Hemmings Motor News and look under steering there are places that deal with these types of steering,they are online also. I hope this will help you.
