460 is torn down
I got it all apart today. My dad mic'd the cylinders and they look good, 4.362"-4.363", that dosnt need to be bored over does it?
Also, most of the valves wiggle a little bit in the guides. What clearances should the valve stems and guides have? And how much power can these stock heads make with a 3 or 5 angle valve job, and ported and polished to the max? I didnt know if it would be worth it to port these heads or buy after market aluminum.
The Sealed Power/Fel-Pro rebuild kit says you can get hyperurtectic pistons or forged aluminum. Whats the difference, and which is better. I want to be able to run pump gas but I want the most power possible. Hyperurtectic is cheaper and has the higher compression ratio, 9.14 to 1, aluminum is 8.12 to 1. Whats the highest compression ratio i can run and still use pump gas and have not have reliability problems.
Now the cam. What 1 should I use? I want a lot of power down low that way the engine will last longer, and I'll be able to run a higher gear ratio for better milage/speed. The secong part I'm more interested in, but good mileage would be nice too, at least 10mpg.
I got an offenhauser "port sonic" intake manifold with the engine. Does anybody know what RPM range its made for? Is there a cam that will work good with this intake or should i get a different intake?
Thanks in advance for all help.
