Been spending some time searching and reading but have not found the answer I'm looking for... and I'm pretty dumb about AC.
This truck is a 93 F250 super cab 4wd and the motor's a 7.3 IDI.
Though I think this was an R12 originally the ports have been changed to R134 fittings. I don't know about the compressor and don't know how to tell - can't see a mod/sn tag on it. I know any changes would've been done at a Ford shop - it was my dad's truck and he was in his 70's and 80's when he owned it.
I went ahead and charged it with R134 and jumper'd across the pressure switch connector to get the compressor to kick in.
Managed to locate the dealer that did the work. They wouldn't have changed out the compressor when converted. Just new charge and oil.
So trying to find a cheap compressor.
Glad you able to find the people who worked on it. A cheap compressor is hard to find. If it is the compressor I would suspect something being done wrong in the conversion process.
U-
Possible that it wasn't done exactly right. But then the compressor hasn't been spun in probably 4+ years which might explain it seizing.
On line I found some reman's with clutch for $235 but a couple of different models.
Also I think this was factory AC but could be dealer add on. I don't know how to tell the difference. Dealer add on replacements were more pricey.
If some folks could weigh in on a good replacement or point me to a previous post that helps I'd be grateful.
