If your talking about R12 to R134A then there is two different methods. The easiest is buying a retrofit kit that basicaly has adaptor fittings, oil, and refrigerant. Some say you need to change some parts, but I did it on a 88 ranger about a year ago and it still works great! You just screw the adaptor fittings over the cleaned R12 fittings, then add the correct amount of refrigerant and oil and thats it. Of course the instructions in the kit may have a few more detailed suggestions. I got mine for about $50 at autozone. It was REALLY easy and only took about a half an hour. I would definately suggest though that you make sure that there are no leaks, and all your o-rings are good. They have UV ray leak detector kits at autozone too, and if all your R12 is gone it may be a wise investment.
