HI i am looking at buying a 90xlt lariat with an efi351. I would like to put my carbuerated 351 from my 80 f150 into it. Was wondering if it is possible and what modifactions and parts would need exchanging. any experience would be helpful.
It's a ton of work. Unless you are dead set on doing it, I would just fix whatever's wrong with the 351 in there.
Your 1980 F-150 has a 351M, the 1990 has a 351W. They are completely different engines. Nothing is interchangeable, including the tranny.
If you have an E4OD tranny in the truck, you'll need a standalone tranny controller. You'll need to put the gas tanks in from the 1980 truck, including the fuel pump and sending unit, because the 1990 tank is a high pressure pump, which is WAY too much for a carb. The openings in the tank are different, so you can't just switch pumps.
That's just the tip of the iceberg. It will end up costing you a lot of money by the time you're done.
