Headers gone

I've just spent the last week or so installing a set of Flowtech headers in my 72 302. I managed to jack up the engine and shoe-horn the passenger side on in and with enough prying and jacking I got a little clearance with the frame (at least until the headers got hot). I flipped the transmission X-member around and cobbled up a bracket for the trany so the pipes could exit the header collectors straight. Even the problem with the spift linkage was overcome although then I didn't have may kickdown lever any more. It was when I was laying under the truck thinking about putting some plywood shims between the motor mounts and the frame in order to get a little more clearance with the X-member that I reolized that it just wasn't worth it. The negligable performance gains were not worth destroying my truck. The headers are now back in the box they came in and the cast iron manifolds are back on and the truck is only a little worse from the experience.

My opinion:

-On a stock engine they make litle if any difference to performance
-If you're going to get headers pay a little more for a set the fits properly. I understand that Hookers or Heddmans fit good and I know how that Flowtechs don't.
