Ok so here goes. Bought 94 GT. Bought 94 Cobra with everything to swap into a non-EFI car. Installed engine and checked wiring harnesses and according to the EVTM they are the same. Engine will crank, has spark and fuel pressure, but will not start. I am a former Ford dealership tech and had a buddy come over and double check everything. We are stumped. I am thinking that the Cobra PCM is bad but have no way to check it as I dont have a second one. We checked for codes and it passes all tests. Any ideas???
Thanks Dusten. We did that and it still acted the same. I am going to change the plugs with fresh ones and see if that changes anything. Will get back with hopeful good news
i know the pcm in the GT was good, i ran the engine before i pulled it. Plugs and maybe wires? on offense on this one jim, but you know the 5liter HO firing order is different from normal 5.0's and is the same as 5.8's
Yeah, I know the regular and the HO are different. They have the truck firing order. I wasnt thinking when I answered earlier, I dont have the GT PCM only a 90 A4P PCM. I never got one with the car. I have looked all over and am sure of it. It wasnt installed and not in the trunk.
So after doing a complete tune-up and squirting fuel down the throttle body it just turns over but no start. It has spark, fuel pressure and the injectors show battery voltage, and when turning over with a test light probing the tan wire, they are getting grounded and pulsing.

I figure Dusten would have had this problem licked...
I can't really help you outside the air fuel spark department, but you can always correct me if I'm just rambling. It's the darn OBD-II and EEC stuff that makes the simple things hard. Is this an EEC IV or V? The IV's used a spout connector, right? Is something jumpered? What sensors are dynamic output based?
One thing that I've learned, if you've got all the sensors unplugged outside of the rotating assembly (crank and cam, TPS) the engine will attempt to run, basing all it's unknowns on the "limp-home" philosophy.
That leaves the sensors in the rotating assembly, the TPS or the PCM.
jim, i could have swore the pcm was in the kick panel, but i must have pulled it. I am going to my dads this saturday, shoot me an email with your addy and i will send it to you no cost, that was my bad, as i told you the car had it. Kerry, yes this car has a spout connector, but, even with it pulled the timing would have to be WAY OFF for it not to run. Honestly, there are not alot of connectors on this car that could be causing the problem. I am curious about the ignition system, as the car had msd on it when i sold it to you jim, just to make sure everything is there and plugged in. The car should run, even with a bad tps, it would just idle all over the place. Does it crank, or does it try and start? And i am only around for technical stuff, i wont be around here for anything else.
No I havent and it looks like it hasnt ever been. There are absolutely no marks around the base of the Distributer except those under the hold down bracket when we checked the timing.
its EEC IV I believe. My best friend is coming over with a tune-up specialist from his dealership and the diagnostic equipment tomorrow. Maybe we'll get it then and I'll let you'all know what it was.
Thanks for the suggestions so far! I'll keep looking and rechecking everything step by step
I am hoping to autocross this weekend but will roll with the punchs

Well, We re-re-re checked everything again from square one. Started ruling out everything step by step. After about an hour and a half, it all pointed to a fuel problem. removed the upper intake and looked at the injectors. checked flow, voltage and ground. then installed a set of 19lb ones and put it all back together and the dang thing started right up. So thank you to all who responded. I am now looking for a back up set of 24lb injectors to have on hand.
