Hello everyone,
I haven't really been around this forum much since I traded in my 93 Explorer on an F150. My exploder got pretty high in mileage and I needed a v8 for haulin'. Now my F150 is getting higher in mileage and I test drove an 07 Sport Trac with the 4.6. I was really impressed. It rode awesome, has got a ton of power and I didn't think I would like the look a whole lot but in person it really grew on me. So I'm starting to think about getting one but I've got a couple of questions after talking to the dealer. I asked if the salesman knew anything about real world mileage and the dealership I went to has only sold one sport trac and hasn't heard anything back. He said that 06 explorer with the 4.6 and the 6 speed auto are getting better than 20 mpg on the highway, is this true out of a v8? My 5.4 doesn't come close. The other question, I do almost all of my own maintenance am a little unsure about servicing this new 6-speed transmission. The salesman told me it needs to be flushed every 30,000 miles (not too easy to do at home) or he said the fluid can be drained and then refilled through a service port on the side of the transmission. Was he right? Thanks
I've also been considering the 4.6 Sport Trac but I haven't driven one yet. I can only assume that the 4.6 is shoe horned in the engine bay and it has to be pretty tight to work on anything in there. If you look back a page or two in this forum there is a review on one. I think they stated that the engine was only turning 1500 rpms at 70 mph. At that rate the dude should get the advertized 21 mpgs hiway and if driven conservatively, might do even better. I will be looking at one this weekend. My friendly Ford dealer that I have bought from for the last 26 years has several and a Limited. I didn't ask the colors but white or a grey sounds good to me.
