Leaky Intake Gaskets?
Can leaky intake gaskets have an effect on performance? My idle is weak and has a mean shudder in it, till the engine warms up a bit then it goes away some.
about 10 minutes after I start my truck it will shudder every thirty to forty five seconds or so, sometimes bad enough to make it stall out.
I have sort of narrowed it down to the lower intake gasket, which is said to be a chronic problem on 98-00 Soch V6 engines.
What other symptoms would I have besides the idle issue?
The problem first appeared when I modified my intake by drilling holes in it and swapping in a K&N filter. It became worse when I went to a Volant intake kit. First it was a mid range bog, then a few months later the idle thing. The gas milage is crappy as well at around15mpg.
Could the increased air flow from the upgraded intake kit have made the lower gaskets problem more apparent than the stock intake unit?

Hook up a vacuum guage to the manifold and monitor the vacuum, should be 18-22 steady at idle. then spray some brake cleaner/WD40 around the intake manifold joints, you will see a spike when you hit the leak, if it is leaking! Carefull,
